Development and Application History of Hydraulic Piling Hammer

In Europe in the 1970s, with the development of urban modernization and the gradual improvement of environmental protection laws and regulations, diesel piling hammers, which were once the main driving force in the piling market, were gradually banned due to problems that their own structures could not solve, namely, noise, vibration and soot pollution.  Moreover, due to the limitation of thermal volume and efficiency, theoretically the impact hammer core mass of the largest diesel hammer can only reach 15 tons, which cannot meet the construction requirements of large prefabricated piles.  In order to seek the upgrading and replacement products of diesel piling hammer, all countries are studying new piling equipment and construction technology. Hydraulic piling hammer was developed under this situation.

As a foundation engineering equipment manufacturing and construction company with a history of 100 years, British BSP Company took the lead in developing the first hydraulic pile hammer as early as 1972.  After 7 years of testing and improvement, the manufacturing and construction technology of hydraulic piling hammer has gradually been developed and matured.

Hydraulic piling hammer has been widely recognized for its high piling efficiency, low noise, small vibration and no soot pollution.  Today, in developed western countries and Asian countries and regions such as Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore, hydraulic piling hammers have completely replaced diesel piling hammers and become the absolute main force in the piling market.  With the progress of social civilization and economic development, it is inevitable to replace diesel piling hammer with hydraulic piling hammer, which is also a symbol of national industrial level and civilization degree.

The Basic Principle and Structure of Hydraulic Piling Hammer

Hydraulic piling hammer belongs to impact piling hammer, which can be divided into single-acting type and double-acting type according to its structure and working principle.  The so-called single-action type refers to that the impact hammer core is lifted to a predetermined height by a hydraulic device and then quickly released, and the impact hammer core hits the pile body in a free fall manner;  Double-acting type refers to that after the impact hammer core is lifted to a predetermined height by a hydraulic device, acceleration energy is obtained from the hydraulic system to improve the impact speed and hit the pile body.  This also corresponds to two pile driving theories respectively. Single-acting hydraulic pile driving hammer corresponds to heavy hammer light driving theory. It is characterized by larger weight of hammer core, lower impact speed and longer hammering action time. The penetration of pile hammer is large, which is suitable for pile types of various shapes and materials and has low pile damage rate. It is especially suitable for concrete pipe pile driving.  The double-acting hydraulic piling hammer corresponds to the light hammer hammering theory, and is characterized by smaller weight of hammer core, higher impact speed and shorter action time of hammer pile. It has large impact energy and is most suitable for driving steel pile.

A hydraulic hammer comprises a pick drill, a pick cylinder and a pick handle;  The hydraulic hammer itself is provided with a power device, the power output end drives a speed reduction mechanism through a clutch, the speed reduction mechanism is connected with a power conversion mechanism, and the power conversion mechanism converts the rotary motion output by the speed reduction mechanism into up-and-down motion along the axial direction of the pickaxe;  And drives the piston to transmit motion to the pickaxe through hydraulic oil.  In the working process, the hammer head impacts the pickaxe through the hydraulic oil, and the reaction force is transmitted to the hydraulic oil and absorbed by the hydraulic oil, so that the vibration of the hydraulic hammer is small and the machine tool is protected.  As hydraulic hammer has its own power plant, it can be used in the wild or in areas with poor environmental conditions, so long as it takes hydraulic hammer with it.  The mechanical equipment required for field operation is greatly simplified.
